I nominate a mainstreamed, academically excelling, hard-of-hearing 287 itinerant student, Bart Howe. Bart is a 5th grader @ Meadow Ridge in Wayzata.
I want to recognize Bart’s continued curiosity and acceptance of embracing new assistive technology. He not only has been open to using new technology in school, but also outside of school (personal equipment) such as in soccer and social events.
Bart continues to be a “star” in personally accepting his hearing loss and implementing equipment and skills that help him to overcome some of the challenges inherent with a severe degree of hearing loss.
Bart is curious and forever wanting to learn. Bart recently shared this about his digital FM assistive listening equipment. “I love using the FM in small group settings, It allows me to hear everyone. I also love using the Roger Pen. The pen enables me to hear my coaches especially on windy days.”
Bart is a joy to work with and one of those students who seems destined to make the world a better place.
