The right to union representation is one of the most fundamental principles of union membership. All union members (full-member and fair share) are protected by Weingarten Rights. The following are your rights as a 2209 member:
You have a right to union representation in any employer interview that may result in discipline. If you are contacted by administration about an investigation of a student incident, injury, or inappropriate conduct, contact your Local 2209 representative before talking with District 287 administration. If you are directed by administration to answer questions, do so to the extent necessary and then contact your Local 2209 representative.
If a Local 2209 member is unsure, ask District 287 the purpose of the meeting. A member can also ask if the meeting could lead to discipline. If the answer is yes or the question is unanswered, the member should reasonably assume it could lead to discipline and advocate for union representation.
